Artist

I am a plein air painter, preferring to work on site outdoors rather than in a studio setting. I always prefer the spontaneity and freshness that comes from working en plein air---the artist must make decisions, solve problems, and complete the thought in a timely manner. My style, if I have one, is broad brush, “unfussy,” and unconcerned with detail that is unnecessary to the point of the painting. If I can successfully describe something with three brush strokes rather than four, good---the simpler, the better. I love the clean, blue skies of Montana summers, the winter light in California, and the soft atmosphere of coastal landscapes---and I have been fortunate to paint in all three settings.
